I hadn't seen that.  This was recommended when I upgraded Stretch to Buster in 
August last year and appeared to work back then.

This might explain why upgrading from there to the latest Raspberry Pi OS 
broke.

How do I do that?  All I've found so far are pages which ask that question and 
the responses say 'why on earth do you want to do that?'  No-one ever actually 
seems to answer the original question.

Another clean install perhaps?
