Welcome in, we have had technical writer that did many articles for OpenOffice and OpenDocument in the past. I think they did a great deal of good.
Bruce Byfield and Marco Fioretti comes to mind. Apache OpenOffice is a changing platform and many things would be changing as new code becomes better used in OpenOffice, which means new features. We had some goals on Google Summer of Code projects as well as independent projects.
