Another possibly-crazy thought ... Should BULK be allocated from the metatype range, 128-255? The idea being that this would cause the zone xfer to be rejected by servers that don't understand it.
... but, from looking at BIND's code (I didn't test it) I think this idea wouldn't actually work in practice because BIND only rejects xfers containing explicitly-known metatypes - it treats most of 128-255 as unknown.
