So one side may be reduced to doing things manually (and usually it's the registrant) when the registrant and registrar used different implementations. On the larger issue - It may be easier to say "The KSK is larger/longer lived than the ZSK because..." than "The ZSK is smaller/shorter lived than the KSK because..." and give the reasons.
