I get that an init script is very minor compared to the software it starts/stops. The problem, though, is one of scale. If the handful of people who work on Devuan suddenly have to create init scripts for hundreds or thousands of packages, that job will take a long time. Even if it's just a matter of finding an old init script and verifying that it works. That said, I am doubtful that this scenario will happen. But even if it did, it would not be an insurmountable problem.
