are you building this for a specific client? or looking to sell to many? if the former, i'd strongly suggest considering trusting your client with the code. you're likely to see that trust reflected back towards you in your relationship. lots of for-hire-and-support contract work goes belly up because the customer winds up feeling (correctly) that a critical piece of their infrastructure is at the whim of a third party.
