I'm trying hard to get something positive out of this. There are two points I
see, which may be valid:
- For some users, "a mailing list" sounds like some arcane thing that requires
specialized, "old-people" software to access. For those users, it may make a
difference if we just point out that the mailing list is a Google Group and
they can post to it through the web; just add a link when we send them to the
mailing list. In ticket 901, links to the mailing list were only posted by
Wim, after he had raised the discussion.
- The mailing list (through mail or through the web) requires you to be
registered before you can post, while Trac allows anonymous posting. I am all
for the argument that if one can't be bothered to register, they can't be seen
as "trying to make it happen" -- it's just that the mailing list has one more
little bump on the way to making a statement.
Other than that, I really can't grasp how "go to the mailing list" is
interpreted as "go away".
HTH,
Shai.
