Hello, I see my point has been completely misunderstood. I've worked with MariaDB for quite a few years myself and am completely aware of the release process.
> What version does Trixie ship with in its own repositories? From what I recall the policy has always been to provide only builds of versions >= than the ones that the distro ships with, and this has been the case accross all supported distros, both rpm and deb based ones. Gordan, that is exactly the problem. Trixie ships with 11.8. This policy does not make sense anymore because LTS versions are now unavailable for users of recent Debian versions. 11.4 is for example relatively recent ( 2 years old ) and not accessible under Trixie. I won't even speak for users of 10.6 which is still a LTS and has regular releases > I don’t see the problem; if you need an older MariaDB, why not just use an older Debian? William, if you had read my email, I just said that for some reasons that I will not explain in detail (compliance to use the latest Debian version for X reasons), this is not always possible. Anyway I suppose the best approach for which seems to be an edge case scenario is to compile our own versions of MariaDB or hacking it with docker/podman Le jeu. 26 mars 2026 à 17:30, Faustin Lammler via discuss < [email protected]> a écrit : > Hi! > I am not sure that I understand fully the issue here but here are some > comments. > > MariaDB version that is shipped in Debian is a different build/package > that the one that MariaDB Foundation provide.
