Hello everyone,

I am writing this to share a concern regarding the Debian MariaDB repos. Nowadays if you install the latest Debian LTS (trixie/13), the only option is 11.8, which was released less than 1 year ago!
I do understand that it takes time and space to maintain more than 3 versions but honestly with the new release cycles being closer, we end up in some ridiculous situation where a user running 11.4 cannot update their operating system. 11.4 is only two years old, not everyone wants to upgrade for several reasons. Since the mariadb LTS cycle is 5 years it would make more sense if a version was packaged for the last Debian LTS which is 5 years as well. I know we can still work around that by running it in Docker but again, not everyone wants to. Thanks for listening to me.

What version does Trixie ship with in its own repositories?

11.8. I don’t see the problem; if you need an older MariaDB, why not just use an older Debian?

From what I recall the policy has always been to provide only builds of versions >= than the ones that the distro ships with, and this has been the case accross all supported distros, both rpm and deb based ones.
