Why is it that you believe that chat is better for a discussion list than e-mail? We've had people post why they believe that e-mail is better (async nature, delivery to existing client, threading, archives, etc). So why don't you explain why you think chat is so much better.

If you think chat is so much better that e-mail should be eliminated as an option (as per your initial proposal to replace the mailing list with a particular chat tool), you need to make a _very_ compelling case for doing so.
