I am not qualified in any of these areas. But I see the discussion as
almost irrelevant. Imagine us ridding IT terminology of terms referring
to "dated" subjects such as kernel, batch, shell, etc. It is impossible
for us to work with the abstract without referring to the concrete.
Then there is also the symbological meanings behind things such as
hourglass, the analog clock, etc. that will never stop being symbols of
time.
In my opinion, a floppy disk should remain right where it is so that we
can have a heritage reference for us and our future generations.
Just my opinion. Please note that I am not a specialist, so I really
think Mr. Pitonyak´s observation should be considered.
