Y'know how I've been saying that the Windows Subsystem for Linux is misnamed because there is no Linux in there? That it's more accurately named "GNU/ntoskrnl.exe" because it's a GNU userspace running on the NT kernel with an API shim that functions in a capacity similar to what WINE does on not-Windows?
This is about to change. WSL 2 will ship with a fully GPL compliant (including patches), reasonably current Linux kernel running in a lightweight virtual machine. Reasons cited are better performance, particularly filesystem performance, and native Docker capability. https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2019/05/windows-10-will-soon-ship-with-a-full-open-source-gpled-linux-kernel/ -- Rich Pieri _______________________________________________ Discuss mailing list [email protected] http://lists.blu.org/mailman/listinfo/discuss
