I looked at 1268. I split it into a bunch of pieces and merged a bunch of it. That shrinks the diff, making it easier to follow. Further comments are on the MR.

  1254 temporarily resolved the NUL truncation issue before being
reverted for breaking (EOL) FreeBSD 11. 1267 solved ntpqs'
inconsistent formatting in * info and * stats. Finally, 1266
resolves the ineffective test log formatting with Python 3.


In response to 1254 being reverted I crafted 1268 which changed
the test to an AES-based ntpdig send that works on FreeBSD 11. I
can not however approve or merge anything, having left the
project over being unable to approve or merge my own stuff.
