I think I remember seeing a comment about "debug" scaring some people, so it should default to off. If somebody encounters a bug, we might be able to learn something by having the user run with debug printout enabled. I think I've seen that used a couple of times, probably a long time ago, maybe with NTP classic. -- These are my opinions.
