It had in the past and this needs to be reverted: VERSION = 2.8.8 REL = rel.2 DISTFILES = $(NAME)$(VERSION)$(REL).tar.bz2 DISTNAME = $(NAME)$(subst .,-,$(VERSION)) This more needs to be BASEVERSION = 2.8.9 REL = 1 VERSION = $(BASEVERSION).$(REL) DISTNAME = $(NAME)$(BASEVERSION)rel.$(REL) DISTFILES = $(DISTNAME).tar.bz2 It is always a bit hairy when the naming concept is non-standard.
