I guess https://dev.horde.org/imap_client/ would be the obvious alternative, but Remi or other people actively involved with PHP might know more. The real issue is probably not so much to find an alternative, but to get all the code out there ported to it. I doubt there is a drop-in replacement anywhere. Maybe we should consider packaging only the C client library of uw-imap, dropping the server? There are enough maintained IMAP servers out there.
