GRUB2 btrfs support tend to lag a bit. When going with btrfs /boot, you can forego separate partition and just make a /boot subvolume in main pool. Advantage: fewer partitions. Disadvantages: using encryption is harder. GRUB2 supports only LUKS1 encryption (AFAIK). Obviously, there is not plymouth integration, so the password would have to be entered at least twice.
