The problem with "half and half" is a separate discussion that doesn't
matter for here.
Do you agree with me that this PR is now dead and can be closed?
Regarding internal vs. external Spark:
There **absolutely**, definitely, positively, are specific problems with
"manual" vs. SPARK_HOME Spark.
I had several exchanges with Moon regarding Spark issues where the answer
at the end was Moon saying "stop using manual Spark, only ever use SPARK_HOME,
and manual Spark is going away anyway."
So I feel this is pretty well documented at this point.
I just want to add again: *I've been told several times that it has
**already** been decided to remove support for manual Spark.*
If you disagree, then we should have that discussion.
I think there are three discussions:
* Is Spark "special"? This is a longer-term separate discussion that
does not belong in this PR.
* Should "manual Spark" go away? This is something we should all discuss
on @dev if there is still disagreement. I do not understand your view?
* What about *this* PR? No matter how other discussions turn out, this
PR does not work. It will break everything that connects to the Spark
dependencies in the build. And it does literally nothing. The whole PR just
moves code around and breaks things without making any technical or substantive
effect.
