We need to provide a status update on how traffic server is going. Ideally an update on the 'traffic server' trademark as well as how the code-cleanup/donation process is going.
Alright, I'll update the status report today. We're making pretty good progress, things actually build and run after the cleanup, which is positive.
Miles, can you examine what the status is with the trademark? See attached mail from Chuck below, our legal team gave us two options, either works for us, so it's sort of up to ASF to pick one I think.
Should I include this as a question in the Status report maybe? -- leif Hi Roy, Leif mentioned the Traffic Server trademark concerns, and I've been digging into this with our attorneys. Currently, we only have four active trademark registrations for the TRAFFIC SERVER mark in the following jurisdictions: Australia, Japan, Norway and the U.S. The registrations in Japan and the U.S. are set to expire this year. The registration in Australia is set to expire at the end of May 2010. That leaves the registration in Norway which is set to expire in March 2019. At this juncture, they offered two possible solutions. The first possible solution is to simply assign all right, title and interest in and to the TRAFFIC SERVER mark including the four active registrations to ASF [though we'd probably want to make this contingent on getting through the incubator stage]. Our second possible option is to provide ASF with a letter of assurance stating that we own all right, title and interest in and to the TRAFFIC SERVER mark and the four active registrations and that we will not take any action against ASF or any of its licensees during the life of these registrations {and we'd express our intention of letting them lapse and expire]. Option 2 sounds easier - I only need to ask an attorney for something once;) but would that satisfy the ASF? My wife's just going into labor, and I'm about to go OOO for the rest of the week - but I wanted to get this off before I headed out. Thanks, chuck
