Might be my spelling error, but COMPRESS-299 is different from COMPRESS-269. :)
I think there really is a problem with compress on some systems. I reproduced
it on a pure build of compress's trunk, and I opened COMPRESS-299 to try to get
some help with it.
Is there anything I can do to help figure out what's going wrong? The
stacktrace I got was well beyond my ken...
