The real meaning of signed-off depends of each project. In st, we are uing it as a way to indicate who verify the patch was correct. Thre is other tags that maybe are better for it (Reported-by:, Tested-by:, Reviewed-by:, Suggested-by:), but they are not added automatically by git.
