I recently was made aware of a GitHub repository distributed approach that
would eliminate the requirement to maintain a translation server.
Take a look at https://github.com/duckduckgo/duckduckgo-locales
In this approach we would do the following.
1. Write GitHub action workflows to translate between SDF and PO (if that
remains best for our translators).
2. For accepted languages we can push updates into our main repository as
changes are made.
3. Translators can make use of https://poedit.net which apparently will allow
us to create translations …
If someone can share the scripts we use to convert between SDF and PO we can
discuss how to convert these into GitHub Actions. Bash, Node, and Python
scripts are easiest, but perl can be used as well.

It looks like we may have a low priority maintenance task to cleanup nightlies.
If there are any old ones that we should save we should discuss.

If you want to take the GitHub approach above then I can certainly assist. I’ve
be doing a lot of GitHub action work at my $dayjob.
Best,
