To help us give you detailed instructions, could you tell us what kind of operating system you are using?
Is it a Windows machine? Also, when you say that "the documents are still there but all else has disappeared," what do you mean by that? Are the documents still on the computer but you can't open them in OpenOffice, or are they missing from your computer entirely? Also, did you just install a new version of OpenOffice?
