Hello Kathelijne,

I didn't get to this one - it's definitely meant to cheat people into downloading Genieo. Maybe it's special to Mac users since Genieo is a software targeted at Mac. It's not, though, very fair of Sourceforge to do this. To get rid of it check your list of installed programs chose Genieo and then uninstall.

As to the other problem, someone using Mac should have to answer.

Thanks again for your information!

Max

This is it: (see below attachment 1))

It looks like you have to click on it, but it is only made to look like OpenOffice to mislead people.

I managed to download the latest OpenOffice version, but my problem is still the same (see previous email). What can I do so this screen does no longer pop up? (see below attachment 2)

   Hi Kathelijne,

I'm not entirely sure which button you mean. Probably it's like
this: If you click on "OpenOffice..." at the top of the page you are
   forwarded to this page:
   http://sourceforge.net/projects/openofficeorg.mirror/. If you click
on "Download" on this page you would be downloading version 4.0.0,
the size of the file is given as 137 MBytes. I decided not to follow
this path any further but maybe it's a lead to people getting
malware along with OpenOffice. I'd say you've been quite helpful -
   thank you for this!

I think I have found the reason why I downloaded Genio (and after
checking the www, I'm not the only one).

When you get to this page

the downloading does not start immediately and (when you're not
careful :-) ) you click on the download button which looks just
like the OpenOffice download button (same color, same lay out).
But that download button is an add. I think I am not the only one
    who made this mistake...

            Hello,

I'm trying to download the new Open Office version, but it
            is not working.

            1. I go to: https://www.openoffice.org/nl/

            2. I click on the second link: Ik wil OpenOffice
            downloade<https://www.openoffice.org/nl/download/>

            n

            3. I am redirected to this page:
            https://www.openoffice.org/nl/download/

            4. I click on the first link: Download Apache OpenOffice

4.0.1<http://sourceforge.net/projects/openofficeorg.mirror/files/4.0.1/binaries/nl/Apache_OpenOffice_4.0.1_MacOS_x86_install_nl.dmg/download>

            5. I am redirected to this page:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/openofficeorg.mirror/files/4.0.1/binaries/nl/Apache_OpenOffice_4.0.1_MacOS_x86_install_nl.dmg/download

Until here I don't see anyting uncommon. All fine.

            6. When I try to open the download I get the following
            message: "Het
            programma kan niet geopened worden"

        Have you completed the download?
Have you verified that the downloaded file was not saved broken?
You can check this on this webpage:

        https://www.openoffice.org/download/checksums.html

Before I had other trouble: when I tried to download
            OpenOffice (the same
steps as described above) I was downloading something
            called "Genio"
            instead of OpenOffice...

Hm, I doubt that you have downloaded "Genio" from a webpage of
our openoffice.org <http://openoffice.org> domain. "Genio" is
already known in the Apple community. See here:

        https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4721789?tstart=0

            Is there a bug?

            What should I do?

Did y by any chance install malware on my computer?

Depends on if you have just downloaded or downloaded *and*
        installed something.

Maybe it helps already to delete anything with "Genio".
In any case you should run a virus/malware check on your
        computer.

Thanks in advance for your reply!

        HTH

        Marcus
