Oxford English Dictionary, 2nd Edition gives "criteria" as the standard plural form. Searching the new New York Times archives: http://query.nytimes.com/search/sitesearch/#/criteria == 68,300 occurances http://query.nytimes.com/search/sitesearch/#/criterions/ == almost none, and what does show up are references to possessive forms of the Criterion theater and to the Criterion DVD collection. You can also look at the relative prevalence of each word in books, as derived from Google Books data: https://books.google.com/ngrams/graph?content=criteria%2Ccriterions&year_start=1800&year_end=2000&corpus=15&smoothing=3&share=&direct_url=t1%3B%2Ccriteria%3B%2Cc0%3B.t1%3B%2Ccriterions%3B%2Cc0 This is not even close to an open question. I don't know where anyone would get the absurd notion that "criteria" is a slang usage. The dictionary states otherwise and usage backs that up. As was pointed out before, users are able to add "criterions" to their custom world list so it will not be flagged as an error.
