Do you already have a blog account?  If not, start a new thread and
propose yourself as an editor, to get lazy consensus.  Then you can
open a ticket with Infra per these instructions:

http://www.apache.org/dev/infra-contact#what-we-need-to-know

Then we can give you editor rights to the blog.

As for the photos, I'm not sure I had any deep thoughts here.  The
fact that they are vintage photos was primarily a result of seeking
interesting, fun, relevant, public domain images that could be used on
the blog.  So that led to Flickr Commons which aggregates such imagery
from various national archives and libraries.  But I'm open to other
ideas.
