Marking lines to ignore with content in a specific column -- this is
so FORTRAN.  I love it.

I think the approach is quite intuitive and there is nothing retro about it: Only results that are interesting enough to be reported if they fail are checked. These reports should of course contain the name of the failed test. If there is no name then there isn't anything worth reporting.
