It doesn't change much for the user but it does bring more consistency for the GNU/Linux platform as said at the beginning of the topic. I've always found this additional openoffice.org folder in /opt rather confusing. And it can lead to problems if you want to run in parallel 2 versions of OO. So a big +1 for this change.
