I'd like to propose that we simply stop using Slack for project wide communications. Discussion about Maven related things can take place in the mailing list or the issue tracker. Between that, communication is well covered. Thoughts?
Having an instant messaging system that can do voice calls, videoconferencing, desktop sharing, snippet/file sharing and other gadgets is handy at times when you need to work more closely with other people. I'm on a few Slacks (not Maven though) and it complements email pretty well once you become used to it. There are many alternatives though, from IRC to Matrix to RocketChat to MatterMost to Zulip to name only a few. As long as you don't migrate to MS Teams I'm fine ;)
(also in a project where people are complaining that discussions are happening in GitLab merge requests. Sigh.)
