Ah I see, but wouldn't it be better if we are doing cartoon type images

images.

Not really Ian. None of the "Open Puppets" are the "official" mascots. They are the artist's rendition of them.

Otto is by far *NOT* the official OOo mascot anyway. He's the mascot for the educational branch. That's very different from being the spokesman for the whole project.

Otto would look very out of place next to the other Open Puppets. Stylistically he's a very different bird than the other guys on that site. The Open Puppets all look similar, because they were drawn by the same person (or group). It reinforces *their* visual identity to have them look alike - with the big eyes and the smooth lines, and the over-sized heads, etc.. Their OOo Mail carrier bird fits with their style. Some frizzy-haired fish-carrying proportionally-sized bird wouldn't fit in there.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not bashing Otto. But

1) He doesn't represent the whole project.

2) He doesn't match the Open Puppets style.

3) He wasn't created by the Open Puppets group.

4) Why should we negate all the effort the OP group did to create something to promote our project just because we've already got a cartoon bird?

None of the OP drawings are reinforcing particular images of the projects or programs they represent. They are reinforcing a mascot, but not an icon. You don't think their penguin looks exactly like Tux, do you? Neither do I, but we all know the penguin is for Linux. Their Dragon/Dinosaur (never could figure out what Mozilla was) doesn't look exactly like Mozilla - but we all recognized him. It's a stylistic choice. If you want, you can pretend that it *is* Otto, just a different style of Otto.

I don't want to tell other people how they can and cannot promote OOo. Let them use their bird. Don't try to force them to use ours.
