Hi to all,
I'm jumping here in the discussion for something that is really important for me.

I'm just trying to make some art standards for OOo with [EMAIL PROTECTED]
You're freezing the project. This is just a stupid business card. We don't have to go through an approval process to do that. Or to get an icon for a page or things like that.
Ok, we (NLC), for several of us, have association/foundation that allow us to have our own business cards, banners, T-shirts, cds... and didn't ask or wait any permission from the OOo project.
However having a design for the overall project seems important for different purpose (I won't comment them, I know everybody is aware that our marketing should be the same whatever the countries, language, projects : we represent OOo).
Here, the art project is the one we (all the projects) can refer to have the basic design line we need for marketing. Imho, this is why this project have to be concerned by all the graphic marketing line created throughout the project. I agree with you Daniel, that business cards don't need contest, but if I want a new design for our next business cards production, this is on this project that I will look for them.
I dont want to sound authoritative, but by using the art designers that [EMAIL PROTECTED] has, we could make one business card what could fit all needs, for quite a long time. Rather than have someone, in next month, that gets a new business card contest for l10n, edu, or any other project.
This is already done by the NLC I think. We are attending to a lot of events since the 2 or 3 last years and we did need that material.
Do you seriously expect another business card discussion to show up in the next few months?
Gggggrrrrrr ....
;) keep quite ;)
One of the biggest problems with this project is this insane need to try to make one design that fits all purposes and is approved by everyone.
No, don't see it like this, see it as a reference marketingbase where every project can *confidently* pick what he needs, knowing that it has been 'approved' by the MP.
I (as a NLC member) should not be on this list because this is the english speaking marketing list, our is [EMAIL PROTECTED], but what is happening here should be reflected on a place where I can find what is designed here easily and where I can be confident in.
For
a project as large as OOo, this is a recipe for stagnation. This attitude is paralizing the project. That's why nothing ever gets done around here.
It may takes more time, but it will be done. Again you need business cards, ok, do them, but don't miss to report what you have done or what you need to the art project. The art project will take care of them, and will come with some valuable ideas to enhance your needs. This is not your time frame, no problem, next time you need business cards, the design will be there. They can't answer your needs before they are aware of them, but their inputs are what we need to be better :)
And all this is done for some supposed benefit derived from a guy in India using the same picture on a business card as the one in Romania. You have to stop for a second and really ask your self, "does this really matter?"
Yes, I confirm that this really matter, because we are A community and we need to speak with one voice. Ok, adapted to our market, countries, etc.., I agree, but if we all have the same idea of 'what' and 'who' we are, that will be much more powerful than every group speaking for is own.
Is it worth slowing the process to a crawl and prevent things from getting done so that we can then try to force everyone to use the same stupid business card?
I agree with you about that should not slow the process. Francophone project have CDs, posters, flyers, banner, plush toys, and special design that any body can use. We have settled an association especially to found our marketing needs.
But every time, we are following what the MP is approving because I feel that however the country or the language you speak, OOo is the same community and the same product.
For this MP, Art, Distribution, Educ, etc, projects ensure that we are all following the same recurrent theme and that we appear or we are seen as a unified community and not a fragmented group of persons using the same software.
Hope this helps :)
Kind regards Sophie
