Jack Krupansky commented on SOLR-4998:
--------------------------------------

Ahhhh... now we're getting somewhere. The crux of the real problem is the fact
that the internal cluster state, which does of course include "slice" and
contextual references to shards and replicas is completely exposed to the
external world via CloudSolrServer.getZkStateReader().getClusterState().

Uhhh...

I was thinking completely in terms of what a user needs to know in terms of
query and update and overall operations, but ClusterState is a whole level
deeper down in the guts of SolrCloud.

Yonik, now what do you have to say?!

> The interchangeable use of Slice and Shard is pretty confusing at times. We
> should define each separately and use the apt term whenever we do so.
