I did see some improvements, but now I'm fighting with the opposite problem,
namely, with pollQueueTime > 0, the docs get buffered (in the runner) a little
too long now because the queue always has another request on it, so now I'm
experimenting with a maxPending concept, which attempts to flush the buffer out
to the replica if docs have been piling up for too long in the runner.
