In case you want to take a look, I have a very early WIP version at 
https://github.com/stoty/httpcomponents-client/tree/HTTPCLIENT-1625 .

It is based on top 5.2.3 as that's the last tag I could find with Kerberos 
support.
I have ignored the Async client for now, and testing has been minimal.

If you'd rather wait for a more finished version, feel free to ignore it.
