I understand where you're coming from Chesnay, but I agree with Stephan that a link is easier to ignore than a text. I think Stephan gave good pointers to why he thinks that people don't read the contribution guide. I'm +1 to add the text as proposed by Stephan. Regarding duplication: We can also do it the other way around and link to the contribution guide from the webpage (Markdown is very readable on GitHub). We won't be able to guarantee what people read or don't read, but we should make the desired thing (read it ;)) as straight forward as possible.
