I agree. If the connection is bad, anyway you probably won't be able to download the hundred MB or so of the SDK. I also have a reliable connection at home (1GBit/s Fiber Channel ;-)), so I can't either know how it behaves with a bad connection. So maybe, it's not the connection that is the issue, but the availability of the different sites/mirrors that are needed to do the installation. So it could happen to anyone ( It seems like it happened to me, even with super-fast connection, when I got the SDK notice list instead of the FlexJS one). That's correct. As I stated when I started that change, the hope is that other folks will contribute more and more locales and the thought of running another vote just to allow them to be used seems rather unpleasant, plus it allows someone to test the new locale without having to be a coder, and without having to recompile the installer. Yes, we eventually have to run a vote so the release package stays up-to-date, but the day they submit the new locale we can put it on-line instead of making them wait. > >But given that locales are rather stable, and localization errors are >fixed during the testing, is that benefit worth all the trouble: >- UI labels empty when connection is slow >- if resource bundles are not available, we cannot even display the error. > >Just wondering... These are in-fact the downsides. You and others probably have a better sense for how often these kinds of problems occur. Where I live, the internet seems pretty reliable. I can only reproduce these problems by stopping the code in the debugger and turning off wi-fi before continuing. The Greek locale looks like it is 16KB. I would think that is pretty small even on slow networks. Aren't lots of web-pages made up of way more external data? I think it comes down to a gamble: How often will the config and language fetches fail if the network is actually up such that the rest of the install could actually continue? This morning I got to test lots of early failure cases because wi-fi wasn't working at all during my commute. IOW, if we can't get 16K, what chance do we have that we'll be able to get the Mbs for the rest of the install? -Alex > >Maurice > >-----Message d'origine----- >De : Maurice Amsellem >Envoyé : lundi 10 mars 2014 18:22 >À : dev@flex.apache.org >Objet : RE: [DISCUSS] Discuss Release Apache Flex SDK Installer 3.0 - >RC6 > >We have already the progress square that will turn to red to indicate >an error occurred. > >The error should be logged in the console and also could be displayed >in the progress, just below the current step progress message, in red. >Ie. >"Downloading XXXXXX" >Error: couldn catch url. > > >I don't think we need an alert, and the red square is visible enough... > >WDYT? > >Maurice > >-----Message d'origine----- >De : Alex Harui [mailto:aha...@adobe.com] Envoyé : lundi 10 mars 2014 >18:09 À : dev@flex.apache.org Objet : Re: [DISCUSS] Discuss Release >Apache Flex SDK Installer 3.0 - RC6 > >As I've been adding more fault tolerance, it has become apparent to me >that the UI isn't set up to tell you that you got an error.
