Maybe just display a message upon installation. eg: "thanks for downloading. get involved [link]. find out more [link]"

IMHO, inviting flex users to the dev list might not work, because of the highly

Most people will get overwhelmed with the list traffic I think.
An installer should just do what we expect: install the sdk, no?
The 'how to get involved' is easy to find on our site.

Also, too many people on the dev list might use it as a help line, which isn't
its purpose.
Is there a possibility to have our own 'help' list or forum or is the adobe
forum still the preferred place to be?

Should we provide a link to subscribe to the mailing lists from the installer?
Such as if they pick the dev branch or nightly's ?

Subject: Re: [Installer] Should the log file be "user friendly"

Hi,

For #1, we could just add more "echo" statements and have the installer
only log echo statements.
That would certainly help.

Or to only fix #2, we could tweak some ant target names to make it clear
they are conditional such as "air-setup-win-if-on-windows".
Why not just not log them in the installers log?

I would expect them to contact the users list and we'd still help them
there.
We've had 20,000+ installs of the SDK via the installer - we don't have
anywhere near that many people on the mailing lists. I think a little caution
is prudent here. the installer is the first thing a user will use when trying
to installer the SDK.

Thanks,
Justin
