Hi Sagheer,
Thanks for reaching out, and for the work you're already doing to build
the developer ecosystem in your region — GraphQL Pakistan, Databricks
Pakistan, and the hackathons all sound like exactly the kind of
community energy ALC is meant to support.
A couple of things to help you figure out the right next step.
ALC chapters are organized per town or city rather than per country,
with a single chapter per location. So rather than a country-wide "ALC
Pakistan," a chapter is tied to a specific city. We also already have an
approved chapter in Pakistan — ALC Islamabad, led by Alina Kazi, approved
in September. So the best path depends on where you're based:
- If you're in or near Islamabad, the most effective move is to join
forces with the existing chapter rather than start a parallel one.
I'm happy to introduce you to Alina — more organizers make a chapter
far more sustainable.
- If you're in a different city (Lahore, Karachi, or elsewhere), we'd
warmly welcome a proposal for an ALC chapter there. Just reply with
the specific city and who the initial organizers would be (a lead,
and ideally a co-lead or two).
On the wiki: self-serve sign-up is disabled, so wiki accounts are
arranged for confirmed chapter organizers as part of setting up the
chapter — it's not a step you need to sort out up front. Once we've
settled which city your chapter covers, we'll get the account and your
chapter's wiki pages sorted then.
In the meantime, the ALC program page has a good overview of how chapters
work and what existing ones look like:
https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/spaces/COMDEV/pages/123899286/Apache+Local+Community+-+ALC
And do come say hello in the #alc channel on the ASF Slack.
Which city are you based in? That'll tell us whether to connect you with
Alina in Islamabad or help you get a new-city chapter started.
Best regards,
Rich
