My concern is the sustainability of such efforts, translated pages
tend to go stale if volunteers go away and we don't have the necessary
language skills to maintain them. We already have a hard time keeping
our Foundation websites consistent, languages are another level of
difficulty for that.

As a first step I would prefer comdev blog posts in non-english
languages. Those can be validated before publishing and they don't
need to be maintained after that. If people see a blog post with a
past publishing date they can assume it might not be fully up to date
and that's fine. As opposed to website pages which need to be kept up
to date.
