Sorry - that last question was mis-leadingly phrased. What I meant to ask was,
what kind of value are projects getting from becoming an ASF project? (I got
(and answered from my perspective) that question several times in the past, but
would love to hear broader input).

Would it make sense to have public (anonymised) documentation of past examples
for that and for what was done to fix those problems?

As an addition to the above: If there really is a shift in how open source is
being done today, I would bet other projects are facing similar issues and would
love to hear our perspective.
