I agree older branches can keep being maintained, but we'll never bump
the major version number to match the one of the current development
branch. In addition to semantic versioning considerations that would be
really confusing for our users.

I'd argue that the -bin and -src artifacts should also not use the
artifactId. That's what I did when I released JEXL 3.0. The result is
much cleaner IMO:
