Agreed.
Those could/should be part of "standard" distribution method.
Some times we just overengineer stuff.

Beside that, there are lots of weird concepts and my favorite is
voting for the content of web site. Sure we cannot distribute
something without a vote, but then again why distribute
something that is meant to be served from ASF web server.
So it's all about what we really need to distribute.
I'm always in favor for the minimum set.
