Gump uses Maven2 to build JCS so if you remove the dependency all that is going to happen is that JCS pulls the version stated in its POM from Maven central - so things will just work. It is quite possible JCS doesn't really need the old version of Tomcat any more and the Gump descriptor may just be outdated.
