Oracle's imageio has notable bug that we had to mention in Tomcat FAQ http://wiki.apache.org/tomcat/FAQ/KnownIssues If "imageio" is a package name that is OK, but if it is a component name I think it might cause confusion. >From proposals thus far I like "Commons Imaging" the most.
