Any opinions on which way to go with http://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/LANG-381 would be very much appreciated.
Currently my instinct is to go with making min/max obey the JDK - ie) old IEEE, and adding a IEEE754rUtils class with its own set of methods for the new way. I'll go ahead and code that up as a patch.
