I have got some experience with Slack internally at $dayjob, but not in this way. Does it allow guests or does it require sign-up for everyone? An alternative could be HipChat, I believe some other ASF projects already use it, and it does allow guests. I am positive to a change (although I like the nostalgia of IRC), but would prefer a platform where users won't have to sign up. -- Erik
