All,

We've the work-in-progress script-based installer here:
https://github.com/apache/cloudstack-installer and served via
https://c8k.in/stall.sh from Github repo.

Regards.

Thanks all, as no objections were raised I’ll proceed by creating a new
sub-project repository.

Once the initial installation script is pushed, everyone is welcome to submit
PRs and suggest changes through Github issues.

As proposed in my original email, the main objectives of this initiative is to
allow new users test ACS in a quicker way and simplify or assist with the quick
install guide documentation. The script may not be suitable for large and/or
production environments and doesn't aim to support all deployments (such as
supports all storage, hypervisors options etc).

In terms of security and adoption, several successful and widely used
opensource projects do offer script-based url installers as standard or
alternative installation such as nixos, homebrew, k3s, pivpn etc. This doesn't
propose to invent anything new or replace our repo-based install/upgrade, but
offer our users an alternative installation option that they're already
familiar with.

Regards.

Regards.

hi everyone

I don't have a strong opinion, VOTE 0

Nevertheless, a few comments:

1. pipe bash installers from a third party somewhere on the internet was
popular but not really a good practice. Should be "support" this kind of
insecure practice?

2. For testing, it would be fine. But the scope of use should be made
clear (only for testing, all in one, not for production).

3. IMHO no serious cloudstack evaluation can be achieved with such a
simplified installer, I see the benefit as rather low.

Yours
René
