[Mon Aug 25 18:14:48 2014] <kts>: great, let's get started with any questions
from the community
[Mon Aug 25 18:15:31 2014] <kts>: are there any questions from the community?
[Mon Aug 25 18:16:21 2014] <kts>: dlester: you there?
[Mon Aug 25 18:16:32 2014] <dlester>: kts: yes! sorry for being a few min late
[Mon Aug 25 18:16:52 2014] <kts>: sounds like there aren't
## mesoscon ##
[Mon Aug 25 18:17:10 2014] <kts>: how was mesoscon?
[Mon Aug 25 18:17:29 2014] <dlester>: I thought we had a great turnout; 260
attendees, over 100 companies represented
[Mon Aug 25 18:17:59 2014] <kts>: are the aurora slides+talks posted anywhere?
[Mon Aug 25 18:18:04 2014] <lexinator>: I did not attend but I'm hearing thumbs
up from coworkers.
[Mon Aug 25 18:18:20 2014] <dlester>: lexinator: good to hear!
[Mon Aug 25 18:18:58 2014] <dlester>: all the talks were recorded, and will be
rolled out as they are edited -- they keynotes will likely go online next week,
and I'll ask if the Aurora talk can follow shortly after
[Mon Aug 25 18:19:26 2014] <dlester>: In terms of slides, we'll have to ask
wfarner to post them if he'd like to
[Mon Aug 25 18:19:44 2014] <dlester>: they will be included in the video, of
course
[Mon Aug 25 18:20:05 2014] <kts>: dlester: awesome, I'm sure we can follow up
with him when he gets back
[Mon Aug 25 18:20:57 2014] <kts>: Did anyone else go to mesoscon?
[Mon Aug 25 18:21:37 2014] <dlester>: I know wickman tstclair wfarner were there
[Mon Aug 25 18:22:30 2014] <lexinator>: jaybuff attended but is not around
right now.
[Mon Aug 25 18:23:13 2014] <dlester>: wickman: were you hacking on Aurora at
the hackathon at all? how'd that go?
[Mon Aug 25 18:23:48 2014] <wickman>: I gave a mini tutorial on Aurora
configuration and also talked a little bit about sla aware maintenance commands.
[Mon Aug 25 18:24:13 2014] <wickman>: We also discussed topics regarding
docker/aurora integration and how to make this work well we might be blocked on
the libcontainerization of mesos/docker.
[Mon Aug 25 18:24:54 2014] <wickman>: tarnfeld and nikita vetoshkin helped hack
on the pesos bindings
[Mon Aug 25 18:25:04 2014] <wickman>: that's mostly what i hacked on as well
[Mon Aug 25 18:26:23 2014] <kts>: very neat
[Mon Aug 25 18:26:57 2014] <wickman>: in general i got the impression that
people liked aurora, but honestly had no idea about most of the features that i
mentioned.
[Mon Aug 25 18:27:08 2014] <wickman>: i think we may have a feature
discoverability problem.
[Mon Aug 25 18:28:00 2014] <davmclau>: is it worth filing a ticket to address
this?
[Mon Aug 25 18:28:02 2014] <dlester>: wickman: agreed, based upon what I heard
folks discussing after wfarner's presentation
[Mon Aug 25 18:28:22 2014] <wickman>: better tutorials / more example
configuration would be useful here. e.g. there were some github pages for
kafka/cassandra recipes recently iirc?
[Mon Aug 25 18:28:43 2014] <wickman>: davmclau: definitely -- though i'm
guessing there already are? but the fact i don't know offhand is probably the
sign of a problem.
[Mon Aug 25 18:30:03 2014] <davmclau>: I'll take a look for tickets, and create
one if I can't find any
[Mon Aug 25 18:30:43 2014] <kts>: it looks like our website is in need of a bit
of love as well
[Mon Aug 25 18:30:51 2014] <dlester>: kts: indeed
[Mon Aug 25 18:31:18 2014] <davmclau>: I can definitely help with that. create
tickets :)
[Mon Aug 25 18:32:29 2014] <kts>: filed
https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/AURORA-663
[Mon Aug 25 18:32:43 2014] <dlester>: davmclau: if you'd like to help the
website, I can maybe sit down with you before I head on vacation and walk
through the steps -- I have been promising wfarner instructions for a while
[Mon Aug 25 18:32:43 2014] <kts>: im sure we need a "holistic improvements"
issue as well
[Mon Aug 25 18:33:02 2014] <davmclau>: sounds good
[Mon Aug 25 18:33:04 2014] <dlester>: and in the future, we'll make this a
greater part of the release process
[Mon Aug 25 18:33:20 2014] <davmclau>: Straying off topic… but I'd like to
see documentation part of the review process in general
[Mon Aug 25 18:34:12 2014] <kts>: davmclau: +1
[Mon Aug 25 18:34:31 2014] <davmclau>: Especially anything that modified the
API (thrift or client)
[Mon Aug 25 18:34:35 2014] <davmclau>: *modifes
[Mon Aug 25 18:34:35 2014] <kts>: especially for new features, missing docs
should be like missing unit tests
[Mon Aug 25 18:34:36 2014] <dlester>: +1, it's the best way to ensure docs are
fresh
[Mon Aug 25 18:35:17 2014] <davmclau>: Maybe we can use the current updater
work as a test for this
[Mon Aug 25 18:35:22 2014] <kts>: imo we should feel free to call them out in
code review
[Mon Aug 25 18:36:11 2014] <davmclau>: Or yeah, now just consistently call it
out in reviews going forward
[Mon Aug 25 18:36:52 2014] <kts>: davmclau: would you like to send a note to
the dev@ list about this?
[Mon Aug 25 18:37:01 2014] <davmclau>: Yeah, I can do this
[Mon Aug 25 18:37:21 2014] <kts>: #action davmclau to mail dev@ list about doc
coverage in reviews
[Mon Aug 25 18:37:28 2014] <kts>: thanks
[Mon Aug 25 18:38:10 2014] <kts>: does anyone else have topics they'd like to
discuss?
[Mon Aug 25 18:38:10 2014] <wickman>: other topics? how is the scheduler
updater going?
## in-scheduler updater ##
[Mon Aug 25 18:38:45 2014] <davmclau>: wfarner is on vacation for this week, so
it will not progress much until he is back
[Mon Aug 25 18:38:47 2014] <kts>: mkhutornenko and davmclau: how's it going?
[Mon Aug 25 18:39:00 2014] <davmclau>: my plan is to have a review with just UI
screenshots early this week
[Mon Aug 25 18:39:12 2014] <mkhutornenko>: the updater API/persistance side is
mostly done. Waiting on wfarner to complete the final piece in state machine
[Mon Aug 25 18:39:17 2014] <davmclau>: once those are shipped, I'll get a
proper code review out
[Mon Aug 25 18:40:08 2014] <davmclau>: if anyone is particularly interested in
giving feedback on the UI, let me know and I'll add you to the people line of
the review
[Mon Aug 25 18:40:12 2014] <mkhutornenko>: we would also need some client work
to switch to the new async update api set
[Mon Aug 25 18:40:58 2014] <davmclau>: will the first commit be a separate API
endpoint?
[Mon Aug 25 18:41:01 2014] <jcohen>: davmclau feel free to add me to the review
[Mon Aug 25 18:41:25 2014] <davmclau>: or will we migrate "job update" in the
first pass?
[Mon Aug 25 18:42:23 2014] <davmclau>: s/API endpoint/client command/
[Mon Aug 25 18:42:37 2014] <mkhutornenko>: davmclau: the endpoint is the same,
we will have to support two approaches side by side until we have full parity
[Mon Aug 25 18:43:21 2014] <davmclau>: okay, sounds good
[Mon Aug 25 18:44:00 2014] <kts>: thanks for the updates on updates everyone
[Mon Aug 25 18:44:24 2014] <kts>: any other agenda items for this week?
[Mon Aug 25 18:45:04 2014] <kts>: ASFBot: meeting stop
