Let us bring up the matter with INFRA to see what can be done. Since this is the sort of thing that happens a few times a week at most, given the number of committers we have I don't think it's that much of a nuisance all things considered. At this point we have spent more time writing e-mails about it than it would take us in aggregate to actually do the Jira role assignment.
FTR, here is the direct link to the Jira role assignment https://issues.apache.org/jira/plugins/servlet/project-config/ARROW/roles So if you bookmark it (which I have never done, since it never bothered me enough, but I'm doing it now), that will save various clicks and page loads On Sun, Mar 7, 2021 at 2:04 PM Antoine Pitrou <anto...@python.org> wrote: > > > The list of things you can do as a contributor is here: > https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/INFRA/Role+Based+JIRA+Authorization > > In any case, I'm not sure the request is to automatically give regular > users the contributor role, rather to let non-contributor people be > assigned issues (and perhaps self-assign, though I see how that can be > considered more contentious). > > TBH, I don't understand what the problem would be with letting > committers assign issues to plain JIRA users. > > Regards > > Antoine. > > > > Le 07/03/2021 à 20:51, Wes McKinney a écrit : > > There have been some concrete issues with Jira spam / vandalism in the > > past, and having individuals in the Contributor role increases the > > amount of damage that they can do.
