I also support the policy's relaxation for committers/PMC, and Pierre got
it right regarding the original intent.
I think of a supported language as a "niche", in the sense that a very few
people will be able to maintain it properly in the long term.
I support the statement that we could trust committers for that, and I
would like to recall that the policy is essentially just a framework to
achieve long term maintenance. As every other source code in the
repository, the policy is always open for improvements according to the
community's needs at the time :)
Nontheless, even if we don't have lazy concencus - I do support at least
announcing the addition of new languages and its owners in the dev. list,
so everyone would be aware of them.

+1 from me for adding the French language and its suggested owners!
